Care for your child’s teeth begins when they are still in the womb. A mother that eats healthy foods will be helping her baby to develop strong teeth.
Once the baby is born, you can help them develop good dental habits. Start wiping your baby’s gums with a clean and damp cloth after each feeding. Baby teeth develop plaque, just as adult teeth do. After more teeth appear, start brushing regularly with a soft toothbrush. Baby bottle tooth decay is a big problem in infants. Putting your baby to sleep with formula or juice can cause damaging decay. If possible fill the bottle with cool water instead of sugar-filled drinks.
Once your toddler has a few teeth call to make a “happy visit” appointment. This is a special appointment to help familiarize your child with the dentist and to lay the foundation for expert dental care throughout their life.
